Home in Berlin
Living the Berlin Dream
Our nice neighbourhood in Berlin - near the river Spree
Based in our home in Berlin, we have had the privilege to meet and greet some wonderful people from around the world. The chance to live in Berlin, in a real Berlin house, like real Berlin people, is increasingly rare. In the days of the wall, you might find a warm welcome in many West Berlin houses, then the big hotel chains stamped out the small, independent places. Ours was the last. Now it is gone.
We met those who survived the darkest days of German history during the 20th Century and still live right here, in peace, with ready a welcome to all. It has been a long journey since the days of the Holocaust, when a resident of this very house was taken away to be murdered in a Nazi death camp - and the journey to free hearts and minds is not over yet.
We have welcomed those who were brave and determined to escape from the oppression of totalitarianism in the former DDR and found freedom in the West, returning to the freedom of an amazing, multi-cultural Berlin
We have met travellers who have crossed the world on a shoestring to make a new life in Berlin, creating art, dance and music of every kind.
It's nice, living near the river Spree
Whether you are drawn by history, art, music, dance, fashion or curiosity, Berlin has been a crossroads, a fulcrum, a focal point and a meeting place for the best and the worst of human society for generations. There is hardly a building that was not at some time filled with beautiful music, riddled with bullets, rocked by explosions, a centre of celebration, a bastion of freedom, a last refuge of the hunted, a happy home of the reunited, steeped in conflict or reconciliation; there is no place like Berlin....
